Girls Camp

Kaitlyn was excited to go to girls camp this year as a 5th year YCL (Youth Camp Leader).
One of the perks of being a YCL is the matching sweatshirts with their nicknames on it.  Instead of nicknames Kaitlyn and her friends put their favorite characters from books.  Kaitlyn and her YCL partner are showing the names they put on their sweatshirts.  Kaitlyn's was "Chase Jennings" and Taylor's was "Augustus Waters".

On Monday morning all the girls meet at the church to pack up in the
buses and head up camp.  Before they leave the YCL's go to the
front of the gym and lead the girls in singing camp songs.

Kaitlyn chose to be a leader over the 4th year campers.
That meant she would be out of the main camp most of
the week backpacking and would give devotionals (spiritual lessons)
each night to her group of girls.

She was a little nervous about going, but had a great time!
She loved the hike, her leaders and the girls in her group.

They created a water slide at their camp.
They put a tarp on the rock to slide on while some of the girls
poured buckets of water on the tarp.

Kaitlyn said there were a ton of water snakes around their camp and in the water.

One day one of the girls asked if she could pick up one of the snakes.  The leaders said yes and then apparently as soon as he said it he had a bad feeling about it and ran over to the girls and grabbed it out of her hand.  He realized it was actually a rattle snake and killed it.  The were all very lucky that no one was hurt!  The crazy leaders decided to cook up the rattle snake and let the girls eat it.  When they got back to camp they made a plague to commemorate the rattlesnake experience.
