Cub Scouts...start your engines!

The building of the car all began during spring break.

Logan drew a design of what he wanted his car to look like and then grandpa helped him cut and sand his car into shape.

Dad was in charge of helping Logan with the body work.

Logan wanted a black car with lightning on the sides.

Here Logan is painting the rims.

The big day arrived and Logan said "I just hope I don't come in last".

(Last year he was in the "Turtle Race" to see which car was the slowest.

He was relieved he won that race so that he didn't win the title of the slowest car).

Thanks to the help of Logan's pit crew he didn't come in last -

he came in 2nd place.

Uncle Scott gave Logan advice and some secret weapons

to help with the wheels.

(Scotts ward recently held a Pinewood Derby Race and Scott

came in first place. Logan knew he definitely should ask for his help).

Dad helped make the car look extra good with a beautiful paint job.

Grandpa help cut out the car and worked with him on the axels.

Thanks for all your help he couldn't have done it without you!

Logan was especially happy with his 2nd place finish!

Black Diamond Mines

On Friday I went with Logan and his 3rd grade class to Black Diamond Mines.

It was by far the most interesting field trip I have been on.

I never knew that these cool mines were so close by.

This is the tag board at the entrance of the mines.

Everyone that enters the mine has to check in here.

After we checked in we were given hard hats and flashlights
to use as we toured the mines.

The mines are obviously not functioning anymore,
but it was still very cool to feel like you were going back in time.

The mine is open for tours on weekends.

Logan and I are hoping to take Mike and Kaitlyn back soon.

Taking Shelly For A Walk

Because of the warm weather our tortoises have

started to come out to play more often.

Kaitlyn figured out she can get Shelly to follow her.

Logan's Talent Show

Logan tried out for the school talent show this year.

He performed three magic tricks.

For his first trick he made a flower appear out of mid air.

For his second trick he made candy appear

and disappear from a magic box.

Finally he made an ordinary coloring book go

from black and white to color to blank pages.

He did a great job!

We're not sure where his desire to be on stage comes from,

but we're glad he wanted to perform.

The schools librarian, Mrs. Warren, retired a few years ago,

but came back to host the talent show again this year.

She is a real character and keeps the show entertaining.

Logan was lucky to have his cousins here to watch him perform.


Aunt Kris was able to perform a little magic of her own
and convinced us to pose for a family picture.

Cousin Fun

We were all excited that the Kris, Eric, Macy, Max

and Jack were able to come for a visit.

We only wish our spring breaks were the same week!

Kaitlyn and Logan had never met their newest cousin Jack

so they were both thrilled to be able to play with a baby!

He is so cute and sweet and we all had a great time

fighting over some time with him.

Kris brought some crafts for the girls to do.

There isn't an In-n-Out in Idaho so we had

to sacrifice and go there for dinner one night.

Kaitlyn's Orchestra Performance

Kaitlyn started playing in the school orchestra last year.

She plays the viola and does very well - she has a great ear for music and seems to pick it up very quickly. I never seem to get a picture of her at her concerts so I made sure to take one at last weeks concert. This concert was a combination of the high schools and middle schools in the area - there were about 120 students in the orchestra.

Fan of the Game!

Mike's company has a customer that owns the Bakersfield Jam (A "D League" basketball team that feeds players to the NBA). To support their customer his company has purchased season tickets to the games. Mike went to one of the games a year or so ago and came home telling me if we ever have a chance to go we should because the kids would love it - especially Logan. Well, we did have the opportunity to go this weekend. So we decided to ignore the guilt of leaving our responsibilities behind and the four of us took off for a weekend get away...

The kids were excited to go, but Kaitlyn was rethinking things when we passed Harris Ranch.

The drive was 4 hours. I had rented movies to pass the time, but they weren't interested in watching them on the way there, we just visited and ate junk food. It was fun to be able to have the time to talk with each other.

As we arrived at the game we saw "Swish" the team mascot. Logan thought it would be cool to have his picture taken with him - Kaitlyn thought he was creepy.

When Mike went before they had courtside seats, but he wasn't sure if that's where the tickets were this year so he decided not to say anything until we found out for sure. We lucked out and had courtside tickets. Soon after we arrived they passed out "Bam Bams". They were red tubes that we blew up and they make a lot of noise when you bang them together.

As you can see Logan was thrilled that he could make as much noise as he wanted to.

Before the game one of the refs came over and gave knuckles to the kids, during different breaks in the game Swish came over and gave them high 5's. T-shirts and posters were thrown out during the game and Logan got a poster.

We all had a great time, but no one as much as Logan. He yelled, danced to the music, cheered on the Jam and heckled the opposing team. He started to lose his voice by the 2nd quarter. He was having an awesome time! Half way through the 4th quarter a lady came up behind me and told me they had chosen Logan as the "Fan of the Game". She told us to stick around after the game because they wanted to take his picture with the Player of the Game.

Once the game was over they took him to the center of the court, gave him a Fan of the Game t-shirt and basketball and took this picture with Swish and the Player of the Game.

Logan then asked Will Daniels (the Player of the Game) to sign his basketball. He is sure Will is going to become a famous NBA player someday and his signed basketball will be worth some money. He definitely decided the drive was worth it and we all agreed.

Blue and Gold Dinner

Logan was excited to create another cake for the Blue and Gold Dinner this year. He was very patient as he frosted the cake - the sides were hard, but he did a great job. The theme this year was "100 years of scouting".

After talking over a lot of different ideas Logan settled on a camping theme since camping is such a big part of the scouting program. Putting the leaves on the trees took a lot of time.


The cake is supposed to be decorated by the cub scout and his dad. They had a lot of fun coming up with creative ideas together.
