Our Weekend Journey

We recently received a flyer in the mail announcing
that Journey was coming to Reno for a concert.
Mike still loves all his 80's music, but his favorite is
Journey and he has passed that love onto his kids - especially Logan.
So we decided to make a weekend out of it.

The plan was to leave Friday morning, but since a storm was

brewing we changed our plans at the last minute and left Thursday afternoon.

Unfortunately we didn't quite beat the storm.

I-80 was closed for awhile so we had to wait it out.

We were lucky we left when we did because 80 was closed on
Friday so we may not have made it through.

Kaitlyn and Logan loved looking out the window of the hotel as the snow came down.

This is what it looked like as we drove around Reno Friday morning.

The kids and I had never been to Cabela's before so we decided to check it out.

Logan walked thru the parking lot the "fun" way - thru the snow.

When we arrived in Reno on Thursday night there was no snow
on the ground, but when we went out
Friday morning it was up to Logan's knees.

Logan was dying to get out and have a snowball fight so we found a

park and got out to play in the snow.

He wasn't even finished getting his snow clothes on before the battle began.

He even wanted Mike to drag him thru the snow.

Kaitlyn made a cute little snowman.

Mike loves a good surprise so we hadn't told the kids about the concert.
Friday afternoon we created a little scavenger hunt to tell
them they were going to see Journey perform live.

Logan was so excited he could hardly stand it!

Off to the concert!

The opening band was Night Ranger - we decided
we aren't big fans - so glad Mike brought earplugs.
But when Journey started we all loved it!
I don't know if Logan ever sat down -
he danced and sang and had a great time!

The next morning we treated ourselves to room service.

Our plan for Saturday was to go tubing for the day.
We were 10 miles from the exit when traffic came to a dead stop.
There was an accident on 80 and it was closed once again.
Plan B was going to a car museum in Reno.

It turned out to be very cool and we wish we could have
spent more time there.

On Sunday we enjoyed a delicious breakfust buffet,
a little more time in the snow
and headed home.

It was so fun to drive home with the four of us singing away
as we blasted our Journey CD.
We all had a great time and we are so glad we went!

Basketball

Logan was very excited to play basketball for the first time this year.

He had a great season!
He learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of it.
His only regret is that the season wasn't longer.

He was lucky to be chosen to be part of the All Star Team.
Way To Go Logan!!!

So glad Logan's fans could come and watch some of his games
(Jaxson, Mallory, Kaitlyn and Lauren)

He is also VERY lucky that Grandma Jackie and
Grandma and Grandpa Gwilliam
were able to come to many of his games too!

Blue and Gold Dinner

It was time to create another cake for Logan's Cub Scout Blue and Gold Dinner.
The theme this year was "The Great Outdoors".
Mike and Logan decided to create a little bit of Yosemite.
Here Logan is modeling El Capitan out of "cereal treats" - stole that
cake decorating secret from Buddy on Cake Boss.
He has a picture of El Capitan in the background to help him get it just right.

Logan modeling his cake in the beginning stages.
(If you can't tell The Cake Boss is on in the background for inspiration)

They final product...El Capitan and Half Dome with a waterfall
and river going through the cake.

This masterpiece was created on Mike's birthday.
Kaitlyn came home from Young Womens with some groundhog cupcakes
to help celebrate his Groundhogs day birthday!

Logan presenting his masterpiece the next night at the Blue and Gold Dinner.
It's always fun to see what everyone comes up with it.

We are all a little sad that it is our last year of this big event.
